DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team earned a 4-3 win over Chadron State College (Neb.), but then lost the late game of a doubleheader, 3-6, on Saturday afternoon at the Regis Softball Field. The Rangers move to 13-24 (12-16 RMAC) on the year, while the Eagles now sit at 12-22 (8-20 RMAC).
The series was moved from Chadron State to Regis due to weather. The Rangers batted on the top of innings, while the Eagles batted in the bottom.
GAME ONE
In the top of the second inning, three straight singles from Isabella Porter, Lima Magana, and Mia Moore, loaded the bases for Mya Chacon, who brought home two runs with a single to left center. The Eagles would record their first hit in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Rangers turned a double play to get out of the inning with no damage.
Olivia Wick singled to lead off the fifth inning, then stole second. Isabella Porter was then walked, which set up a two-RBI singled for Lima Magana, extending the Ranger lead to 4-0. However, after the Rangers stranded one runner in the top of the sixth inning, Chadron got on the board with a single that scored one run, followed immediately by a two-RBI double.
The top of the seventh inning saw two hits by the Rangers, but both Bella Bordine and Magana were left on base. With a chance to win the game, CSC went three-up, three-down, and Regis claimed victory, 4-3.
GAME NOTES
· Magana led the Rangers, going 3-4 with two RBIs
· Chacon added two more RBIs, while Bordine and Wick both had two hits
· Ashland Baca went 1-2 with two RBIs for Chadron
· Wick stole two bases
· Eliza Legge (3-3) earned the complete game win, allowing just three hits and striking out four batters
· Tori Haug (5-11) recorded the loss with four strikeouts
GAME TWO
Chacon started the second game with a lead off single, and with two outs was brought home by a Morgan Norris home run. Porter and Moore singled in the second inning, but did not each home, and the Eagles capitalized in the bottom of the frame, taking the lead with a lead off home run and a two-RBI double.
Ybarra would single to lead off the third inning, then stole second and reached third on a grounder from Norris. A Chadron error then helped Ybarra reach home, evening the score at 3-3. In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles got two runners in scoring position, but RU got out if the jam without allowing a run. However, in the fourth inning, after Regis left another two runners on base, back-to-back doubles by CSC helped score three more runs, going up, 6-3.
Three errors by the Eagles loaded the bases for Regis in the top of the sixth, but a ground out ended the half inning, and while two more Rangers reached base in the seventh, still none reached home as the comeback bid ended there, 3-6.
GAME NOTES
· Norris went 3-4, batting in two runs
· Porter and Moore both posted two hits
· Lauren Zimmerman and Ashland Baca both went 3-4 with two RBIs for Chadron
· Ybarra stole one base
· Carmen O'Connor (0-1) recorded the loss, while Kenzi Garner (3-8) earned the win and Belle Akins posted her first save
