Rangers Rally Falls Short Against the Roadrunners

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team suffered a pair of setbacks to Metropolitan State University of Denver on Sunday afternoon, 3-14 and 6-9. The Rangers drop to 13-26 (12-18 RMAC), while the Roadrunners climb to 29-9 (24-5 RMAC).

GAME ONE

The Roadrunners would waste no time getting on the board, as the second batter of the game hit a home run that scored two runs. Back-to-back singles later in the inning scored three more runs. A fly ball to right field ended the half-inning with three runners on base.

The Rangers were able to claw back two of the runs, as May Chacon scored on Morgan Norris' RBI single, and Norris scored on Bella Bordine's RBI double. However, Metro State kept the pressure on, scoring seven more runs on six more hits in the top of the second inning, including two home runs. In the third inning, an RBI double and RBI single pushed the Roadrunner lead to 14-2.

Olivia Wick doubled in the bottom of the frame, and was immediately batted in by a Norris double to chip into the lead, but RU did not produce any hits in the fourth or fifth innings, losing 3-14.

GAME NOTES

·         Norris led the Rangers, going 2-2 with two RBIs

·         Bordine added two hits and an RBI

·         Alexia Borin was 3-4 with five runs batted in for MSU Denver

·         Eliza Legge (3-4) recorded the loss, while Natalie Rome (13-3) earned the win

GAME TWO

The Rangers took the first lead of the second game behind a Wick RBI double in the bottom of the first that scored Ariana Ybarra. An unearned RBI single by the Roadrunners evened the score in the top of the second.

MSUD scored two runs on a home run in the top of the third frame, and while three Rangers had a hit in the bottom, none reached home. Metro extended the advantage to 8-1 in the fourth inning, hitting two homers, one scoring two runs, the other scoring three.

There would be just one hit between the two teams across the fifth and sixth innings. In the seventh, the Roadrunners hit yet another home run, a solo shot that pushed the lead to 9-1.

However, the Rangers did not give up. Lima Magana singled, followed by one from Jessica Isbell. Mia Moore laid down a sacrifice bunt that advanced the runners to second and third. Mya Chacon doubled to bring them both home, and after Ybarra was walked, Wick homered to bring the score to 6-9. Norris was hit by a pitch, but the rally attempt ended there.

·         Chacon added two hits and two RBIs

·         Three other Rangers had a hit

·         10 different Roadrunners recorded a hit
