Rangers Take Two Games from Skyhawks in Final Series

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team began their final regular season series on Friday afternoon with two wins over Fort Lewis College (Colo.), 9-0 and 7-2. The Rangers improve to 19-30 (18-22 RMAC), while the Skyhawks fall to 10-36 (9-31 RMAC).

GAME ONE

Neither team would record a hit in the first inning, and Olivia Wick earned the first hit in the bottom of the second with a single. However, after stealing second, she would not reach home. After the Skyhawks loaded the bases in the third, Ava Edwards struck out two batters to get out of the jam.

In the bottom of the frame, Isabella Porter got the Rangers on the board with a solo home run. That would spark the RU offense, as Bella Bordine scored Mia Moore and Mya Chacon with a two-RBI double, and Jessica Isbell's single brought home Ariana Ybarra. An error by Fort Lewis allowed Borine to score, then Porter, in her second at bat of the inning, powered a double to left center that batted in three runs for the 8-0 lead.

After FLC left two more batters on in the fourth, Bordine recorded another double, which brought in Moore. The Rangers then retired three straight batters in the fifth for the mercy-rule win.

·        Bordine also had two hits and three runs batted in

The Rangers took the first lead of the second game as well, as Mya Chacon scored on a double steal with Wick in the bottom of the first. After two scoreless innings, Fort Lewis scored their first run of the day with an RBI double in the top of the fourth.

The Rangers had an answer in the bottom of the frame, as Ybarra came home on a sacrifice fly, and Wick reached home on a Porter single. Each team added one more run in the fifth, the Skyhawks on a sacrifice fly, and the Rangers on a Wick RBI single.

In the sixth frame, RU added some insurance runs, as Angelina Romero-Barros doubled to bat in Lima Magana, and Moore singled, driving in Chacon and Romero-Barros. Despite FLC earning two hits in the seventh, no runners scored and the Rangers secured the 7-2 win.
