Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Vikings Score Late as Rangers Secure Road Draw

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team, who are receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, took a draw on the road at Western Washington University on Thursday evening, 1-1. The Rangers move to 2-1-1, while the Vikings now sit at 0-3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Vikings would take the first shot of the match, but coming from 30 yards out, it was not close to the goal. Jason Robles, however, had the first attempt of the game for Regis, and narrowly missed, finding the post instead. WWU put some pressure on the Rangers, with three corner kicks and two shots on goal in a three-minute span, but Zach Jennings stopped both tries. In the 32nd minute, Sahar Golov would have his shot blocked, while Jan Grillitsch's low center attempt was saved. RU kept the offensive momentum, as Blaise Richard found more hardware, hitting the crossbar, and Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit put a shot on goal. But, for the final eight minutes, the defenses stepped up, allowing no more shots either way.

Golov took the first shot by either squad in the second half, but missed high. Carlson-Du Toit tried putting in a shot off a Ranger corner, but was blocked in the 60th minute. At 62:21, the Vikings received a yellow card, and the Rangers capitalized. Following the free kick, Julian Fally found Ben Wittenbernds, who's header hit the crossbar, but the ball bounced over the line for the Ranger goal. Late in the half, Carlson-Du Toit's shot was saved, and Robles' went high. But the Vikings did not let up, facing the deficit. On a free kick from the left corner, Western Washington found their forward for a header and evened the score with just 13 seconds left in the match.
