ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Regis University Women's Basketball Team headed south to take on Adams State University but came up short, 59-83. The Rangers now sit at 0-15 (0-11 RMAC) while the Grizzlies improve to 16-5 (10-1 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Grizzlies were the first to score, but Kate Gallery answered with a three-pointer, assisted by Kaylin Venick. Jessica Bollwahn followed with a put back layup after securing her own offensive rebound, and Mary Crossland knocked down a triple to give Regis an 8–7 advantage. The Rangers stayed in rhythm offensively as Gallery and Crossland each added another three, while Caitlin Turnbow connected on a turnaround jumper. Bollwahn and Savanna Staff capped the quarter with a pair of layups, sending Regis into the second quarter with a 22–18 lead.
Adams State opened the second quarter on a run, jumping ahead 31–22 before Bollwahn answered with a jumper and Turnbow finished another turnaround layup. Venick closed the half with back-to-back layups, but the Rangers trailed 37–30 at the break.
Out of halftime, Gallery buried a turnaround jumper and Venick added a layup as Regis worked to close the gap, cutting the deficit to 41–34. Adams State responded with a run of its own to regain momentum and extend the lead to 49–34. Bollwahn later converted a pair of free throws, and Gallery added a mid-range jumper before knocking down a late three, but the Rangers still trailed 53–41 heading into the final stretch.
Bollwahn would get a corner three to go and Venick added a turn around jumper to start the scoring for RU. Turnbow hit a mid range jumper for Regis, but the Grizzles continued their hot shooting leading 67-46. Gallery would hit a pair of free throws, Legcee Fillmore would hit a triple and Alicia Barajas hit back to back layups for the Rangers. The Rangers would fall 59-83.
GAME NOTES
Gallery led with 15 points, Bollwahn followed with 11 and Venick added 10.
Bollwahn grabbed eight rebounds.
Venick dished out five assists.
The Rangers out rebounded the Grizzles 33-27.
