DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team started their 2026 home weekend facing Black Hills State, but lost, 36-89. The Rangers fall to 0-8 (0-5 RMAC), while the Yellow Jackets rise to 7-5-1 (4-1 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Black Hills State opened the second quarter with four straight points before
Caitie Turnbow put the Rangers on the board with a layup. Turnbow followed with a turnaround jumper, but the Yellow Jackets extended their advantage to 11-5 after converting a pair of free throws.
Jessica Bollwahn added a layup, and
Kate Gallery chipped in a free throw. However, Black Hills State closed the quarter with the final basket, taking a 20-10 lead into the break.
Bollwahn sparked Regis early in the second quarter with a layup and a jumper, but the Yellow Jackets responded with a three-pointer. Turnbow answered right back with a jumper, though the Rangers still trailed 29-16. Turnbow scored her 10th point of the half with the final Regis basket before Black Hills State converted a last-second layup to extend its lead to 38-19 at halftime.
Gallery came out strong for the Rangers in the third quarter, scoring the first seven points for RU, including a turnaround jumper and a deep three. Despite her offensive spark, the Yellow Jackets maintained control and continued to build their lead. Josephine Lynch added a layup off a nice assist from
Mary Crossland, but Black Hills State continued its offensive rhythm and stretched the advantage to 68-28.
Kaylin Venck opened the fourth-quarter scoring for RU with a layup and two free throws, while
Caitie Turnbow added another layup and
Alicia Barajas connected on a free throw. However, the Yellow Jackets maintained control and secured an 89–36 victory.
