Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rangers Win 3-1 on Senior Day

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team defeated Westminster University (Utah), 3-1 on Sunday afternoon, securing a Senior Day win in their final regular season home match of the year. The Rangers improve to 8-3-3 (5-1-1 RMAC), while the Griffins fall to 5-6-4 (3-3-1 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

RU put the offensive pressure on immediately, taking the first four shots of the game, including a SOG by Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar. Westminster didn't attempt a shot until the 22nd minute, and the Rangers responded to that with a penalty shot attempt, that Blaise Richard converted to start the scoring for RU. Two minutes of game time later, Betancourt-Tovar took the ball himself, covering 40 yards and firing from outside the box for the goal. However, with less than in the half, a WU throw in went off the head of a Ranger, then found the head of a Griffin for the score.

It didn't take long for RU to get that goal back in the second, as Jan Grillitsch sent a pass into the box, that Joakim Gunnar jumped to find and send to the back of the net. From there, the Rangers would settle into a calm control of the game. They outshot the Griffins, 7-3 with two on goal, and dominated the time of possession to close out the 3-1 win.
