ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team annihilated Adams State University, 6-1, on Friday afternoon behind a record-setting performance by Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar. The Rangers improve to 9-3-3 (6-1-1 RMAC), while the Grizzlies drop to 2-11-2 (1-7 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
It did not take long for Betancourt-Tovar to make his impact on the game, cleaning up a mess in the box and scoring in the seventh minute. Jan Grillitsch made it 2-0, 17 minutes into the match, scoring on a free kick from just outside the box. Betancourt-Tovar was able to score twice in under a minute of game time, beating three defenders on one shot, and weaving between four on another. Zach Jennings saved a shot on goal, but after eight RU attempts, the Grizzlies did score, sending the game into the half, 4-1.
Less than five minutes into the second, a loose ball found itself at Betancourt-Tovar's feet, and his shot deflected off the goalie's hands, finding the net for the Regis record-tying fourth goal of the day. After two more Jennings saves, Grillitsch assisted Blaise Richard to go up, 6-1. Regis took 12 more shots over the final 25 minutes, but the final score would stay.
