COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team, ranked #24 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, dropped a match, 0-1, on the road at #14 University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers fall to 4-3-3 (1-1-1 RMAC) while the Mountain Lions climb to 6-1-5 (1-1-2 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis took the first shot of the game, an attempt by Liam Corr, and the first shot on goal, a try from Blaise Richard to the bottom right that was saved in the 25th minute. UCCS only had a single shot in that time, and the Rangers would dominate time of possession over the final 10 minutes. Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar and Maty Price took SOG, and the team took three more shots that went wide. RU had three corners in that span too, while the Mountain Lions did not tally any stat.
Colorado Springs came out stronger in the second, with three corner kicks and a SOG saved by Zach Jennings. Regis made the Mountain Lion keeper work, with on-target shots by Corr, Betancourt-Tovar, and Jackson Hammons, but the stalemate held. That was until, right past the 80-minute mark, UCCS fired from the left side of the box, and weaved the shot past two Rangers to find the net. Their defense took over from there, not allowing another RU shot for the rest of the game.
