DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team played to a rather dominant 1-0 victory this evening as they took down Colorado Christian University at the Regis Turf Fields.
The game may have featured just one goal, but the real story was the Rangers outshooting the Cougars 26-4 in the contest while only allowing three shots on goal all game.
The four shots total also serves as the lowest amount any opponent has recorded against the Rangers all season.
Regis bounces back into win column with tonight's decision as they are now 5-3-3 while improving to 2-1-1 in RMAC play. Colorado Christian moves to 3-5-4 (2-2 RMAC) with the loss while having their two-game winning streak snapped.
Joakim Gunnar was responsible for the winning goal in today's victory as he scored in the 71st minute of play on a header from a cross pass off Jack Shimkus.
Gunnar earned his second goal of the season with the score while Shimkus' assist was his first collegiate point.
Prior to Gunnar scoring late in the second half, Regis already dominated the offensive game with them outshooting Cougars 14-3 in the first half and 8-0 through the first 31 minutes of play in the second half.
A total of 10 players ended up taking shots for Regis with four of them having three or more shots alone.
In the net, Zach Jennings recorded saves all three shots on goal he faced for another shutout this season with him now owning four on the year.
The Rangers' defense has only allowed 20 shots against them now through four conference games.
