LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Regis University Baseball team split a doubleheader with Biola University (Calif.) on Saturday afternoon. RU dominated the first game, 19-7, while BU took the late game, 10-2. The Rangers move to 1-3, while the Eagles now sit at 3-1.
GAME ONE
Grayson Headrick and Bobo Iandoli were walked to start the game, setting up a huge first inning for Regis. Jack Moulin singled, scoring Headrick, followed by a three-RBI homer from Ethan Wood. With two outs, Ayden Harrison was walked, then stole second, getting into scoring position for Parker Burt's RBI double, finishing a five-run frame. Grant Belcher struck out the first two Eagles in the bottom of the inning, as RU retired three straight batters.
The Rangers loaded the bases to lead off the second, including a Moulin double, and back-to-back sacrifice flies from Mason Pettingill and Dylan Perry extended the lead to 7-0. A pair of two-out singles from Biola recouped those two runs but Regis continued to roll in the third. Burt doubled, followed by a George Smith RBI-single. Smith was brought all the way around by Iandoli's double, pushing the advantage to 9-2.
A single to the pitcher let the Eagles score in the bottom of the inning, but the Rangers had an answer in Burt's RBI double which scored Harrison. Belcher caught another batter looking, helping make quick work of BU in the bottom of the fourth. A Biola RBI single would be the only run scored in the fifth, and while Smith batted in Harrison in the top of the sixth, BU made up some ground with an RBI triple, single, and wild pitch.
The seventh inning saw a Moulin single followed by another Wood homerun, and a quick three fours for the Eagles. RU stayed hot in the eighth, with Headrick being hit by a pitch, stealing second, then coming home on an Ioandoli sac bunt, in which an error kept Iandoli on first. He was also able to steal second, and Wood was intentionally walked, and Pettingill was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Harrison sent a ball over the left field fence, clearing the bases and bringing the score to 18-7.
Sam Fisher struck out two Eagles in the bottom, and Regis added one more insurance run in the ninth, a Wood RBI single.
