BILLINGS, Mont. – The Regis University Baseball team started its series with Montana State University-Billings on Thursday afternoon, but dropped game one, 10-7. The Rangers fall to 5-5, while the Yellowjackets improve to 4-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite each team recording a first innings single, Regis would get on the board first in the top of the second. A pair of errors set up a two-RBI double from George Smith, scoring Ethan Ralph and Parker Burt. However, MSUB responded with a three-run showing in the bottom of the frame, including two singles and a sac fly. They continued the momentum into the third, with four doubles and a homerun that pushed the lead to 8-2.
Burt led off the fourth inning with a single, and after Dylan Perry singled, Smith doubled to drive in Burt. Bobo Iandoli cut into the lead further with a single that scored two more runs. While Billings recorded three hits in the bottom of the fourth, the Rangers held them without a run. However, a solo homer in the fifth did extend the lead to 9-5, and an RBI double in the sixth added another run, but Ralph turned an unassisted double play to stop the scoring. Jack Moulin and Ethan Wood recorded a back-to-back triple and homer in the seventh inning, bringing the score to 7-10. Smith added one more hit in the eighth, but neither team would manage another score.
