Rapid City, SD - The Regis University women's basketball team traveled to Rapid City on Thursday night but came up short in a 67–57 loss to South Dakota Mines. The Rangers move to 1–17 overall (1–15 RMAC), while the Hardrockers improve to 9–14 (7–8 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
South Dakota Mines opened the game on a 6–0 run before
Kate Gallery got Regis on the board with a layup.
Jessica Bollwahn followed with a three-pointer and another layup to keep the Rangers within striking distance at 11–7.
Kaylin Venick then knocked down a triple, and Gallery scored back-to-back baskets to give Regis a 14–13 lead. Bollwahn capped the quarter with a buzzer-beating three as the Rangers took a 19–13 advantage into the second.
The Hardrockers seized momentum in the second quarter, scoring 11 straight points to swing the lead. Bollwahn halted the run with a jumper, but South Dakota Mines continued its surge to extend the margin to 32–21. Gallery and Venick each connected from beyond the arc late in the half, yet Regis trailed 41–27 heading into the break.
Mary Crossland opened the scoring for Regis at the free-throw line, and
Jessica Bollwahn followed with a three-pointer and a layup.
Kaylin Venick and
Kate Gallery each added layups, but the Rangers still trailed 52–37 midway through the third. The Hardrockers stayed hot, and Josephine Lynch drilled a three-pointer to close the quarter with Regis down 60–40.
Emily Allison opened the fourth quarter with a layup, Bollwahn added a quick jumper from the elbow, and Allison converted a pair of free throws to keep the Rangers pushing.
Legcee Fillmore scored the final basket for Regis, but the Rangers ultimately fell 78–48.
GAME NOTES
Bollwahn led RU with 17 points, Gallery followed with 13.
Bollwahn grabbed eight rebounds.
Josie Lynch dished out three assists.
The Hardrockers would shoot 48.3% from the field and 48% from the three.
