SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team lost on the road to #20 Black Hills State University (S.D.) on Saturday afternoon, 84-51. The rangers fall to 2-20 (1-15 RMAC), while the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-04 (13-3 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers opened the game with two buckets from Cooper Frith, a layup assisted by Dylan Forbord, and a jumper. Forbord then earned a steal, and took it all the way for a fastbreak layup. Luke Soden scored in the paint, while a Frith steal led to another Forbord layup. However, a 12-0 run by BHSU put the Yellow Jackets up, 20-12. Soden's dunk ended the run, but the quickly started another to build a 29-16 advantage. Gunner Walters stole the ball and hit the ensuing jump shot, while Nick Marabito earned a trip to the free throw line, hitting both. Frith hit a triple as the squads traded three-pointers, and hit two from the line for the Rangers' final points of the half, but RU trailed, 28-45.
Neither team would score for the first three minutes of the second half, but Forbord ended the drought with a layup assisted by Frith, but Black Hills responded with a 7-0 run that was ended by Soden. Rifky Sedhom connected on a pair of free throws, while Marabito added a three, but the Rangers struggled to cut away at the lead. RU allowed only three points over the last six minutes of the game, while Walters and Marabito led the offense late, bringing the final score to 84-51.
