GOLDEN, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team suffered a 63-50 loss to Colorado School of Mines on Tuesday night. The Rangers drop to 1-22 (1-18 RMAC), while the Orediggers climb to 15-15 (10-9 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jessica Bollwahn assisted Caitie Trunbow in the paint for the Rangers' first basket of the game, then hit a hook shot of her own. After a Bollwahn layup, Kaylin Venick pulled down a rebound and found Kate Gallery on the fast break for a three. Venick connected on a turnaround, then hit from deep to put the Rangers up 10, 18-8. The Orediggers scored in the paint at 1:18, ending a six-minute scoring drought, and after Emily Allison hit two from the line, RU took a 22-12 lead into the first break.
Mines would score the first six points of the second before Gallery earned a trip to the line. Turnbow scored on back-to-back possessions in the paint, but with a jumper at 3:22, Mines evened the score at 28-28. Mary Crossland assisted a Gallery three late in the half, but CSM banked in a half-court at the buzzer to take a 37-35 lead into halftime.
Mines would start the third with the momentum again, scoring seven straight despite a Venick steal. Gallery hit two straight jumpers to get the Rangers on the board, while Bollwahn scored in the paint in the final minute to bring the score to 41-46 going into the final period.
Two Bollwahn free throws, followed by jumpers supplied by Turnbow and Gallery, brought the game within one possession. However, the Orediggers would respond with a run, going up 13 points. Bollwahn ended the run with a Turnbow-assisted jumper, but it came too late, as Regis fell, 63-50.
