DENVER, Colo - The Regis University Women's Basketball team fell to top-ranked #4 Colorado Mesa University, 36-67. The Rangers sit at 1-16 (1-13 RMAC) while the Mavericks improve to 24-1 (14-0 RMAC).
HOT T HAPPENED
Colorado Mesa opened the game on a 9–0 run before Caitlin Turnbow got Regis on the board with back-to-back layups.
Kaylin Venick followed with a layup of her own as the Rangers cut into the deficit, 15–6. The Mavericks stayed hot from the field, closing the first quarter with an 18–6 advantage.
Mary Crossland opened the second quarter with a layup, and Venick knocked down a jumper after a defensive rebound by
Jessica Bollwahn. Venick later connected from beyond the arc, and
Kate Gallery added a jumper as the Rangers continued to chip away, closing the gap to 25–18. Bollwahn buried a three late in the quarter, but Colorado Mesa responded to take a 34–21 lead into halftime.
The Mavericks struck first out of the break, but Bollwahn answered with a triple for Regis. The Rangers went scoreless for the next three minutes before Crossland and Gallery each converted jumpers. Venick added a layup late in the third quarter, but Regis trailed 47–30 heading into the final frame.
Venick opened the fourth quarter with a free throw and followed with a layup, while Bollwahn added another bucket in the paint. Turnbow capped the scoring for Regis with a free throw, but the Rangers ultimately fell to the Mavericks, 67–36.
GAME NOTES
Venick led with her career high of 15 points, Bollwahn followed with eight.
Bollwahn grabbed 10 rebounds.
Rangers scored 12 points off Maverick turnovers.
CMU was led by Olivia Reed with 29 points.
