Rangers Kick Off 2026 Season Against Ranked Competition

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif - The Regis University Softball team opened its 2026 season with a doubleheader at the D2 West Coast Challenge. The Rangers started their day against Northwest Nazarene (4-4) but fell 5-1. Later, the Rangers (0-1) took on #14 Cal State San Marcos (6-1), falling 2-18. 

GAME ONE

To open the game, Jessica Isbell and Kiauna Smith each reached base with singles to left field but were stranded. Northwest Nazarene broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third, taking a 1–0 lead. The Rangers responded in the fifth when Kristin Ingram doubled and later scored on an RBI from Angelina Romero-Barros to even the game at 1–1.

The game moved into extra innings, where the Rangers were unable to capitalize offensively. Northwest Nazarene then delivered the decisive blow, hitting a four-run home run to win the game 5-1. 

For the Rangers Hallie Crappell would take the loss (0-1). And Lynsey Chiala would take the win (2-0). 

The Rangers recorded five hits. 

GAME TWO

Jessica Isbell opened the game with a single to left field, and Olivia Wick followed with another single to move Isbell to third. Isabella Porter then lined a single down the right-field line, driving in both Wick and Isbell to give the Rangers an early 2–0 lead. Cal State San Marcos quickly seized the momentum, launching three home runs in the first inning to surge ahead 12–2.

In the top of the second, Enyssa Dominguez drew a walk, and Janelle Eric singled to put two runners on, but the Rangers were unable to bring them home. CSU continued to swing hot bats in the bottom half, extending the lead to 16–2. Olivia Wick opened the third with a double but was left stranded, and the Cougars tacked on two more runs to make it 18–2. Eleanor Siko later singled up the middle and Kiauna Smith worked a walk, but once again the Rangers couldn't capitalize, as they fell 18–2. 

The Rangers recorded six hits, two from Wick. 

Porter brought in two runs for RU. 

Vanessa Candito would take the loss for RU (0-1). 

Madison Cabrera recorded the win for San Marcos (2-0). 

UP NEXT 

The Rangers continue action at the D2 West Coast Challenge on Saturday, February 7th, taking on Cal State San Bernardino at 5:30 pm and Cal State. Dominguez Hills at 8:00 pm.
