LAKE ELSINORE, Calif - The Regis University Softball team continued play at the D2 West Coast Challenge on day two of competition. The Rangers opened the day with a narrow 5–4 loss to Cal State San Bernardino before falling 6–2 to Cal State Dominguez Hills in the finale. Regis moves to 0–4 on the season, while the Coyotes improve to 5–3 and the Toros to 6–5.
GAME ONE
The Coyotes struck first with a triple in the top of the first to take an early 1–0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Kristin Ingram doubled down the right-field line and Jessica Isbell followed with a single, but both runners were left stranded.
Cal State San Bernardino added three runs in the top of the fifth to extend its lead to 4–0. The Rangers responded in the bottom half as Janelle Erickson singled and later scored on an Isbell double to cut the deficit to 4–1. However, the Coyotes answered with another run to regain momentum.
Regis mounted a late rally in the bottom of the sixth. Kiauna Smith opened the inning with a double, followed by walks to Hailey Haas and Ingram. Bella Bordine was hit by a pitch to bring in Haas, and Erickson drew a walk to score Ingram. The Rangers added another run on a wild pitch, pulling within one at 5–4. Regis was unable to complete the comeback in the seventh, falling to the Coyotes by a final score of 5–4.
The Rangers recorded seven hits, two from Jessica Isbell.
Bella Bordine, Isbell, and Erickson each recorded an RBI.
Eliza Legge (0-1) recorded the loss for the Rangers.
GAME TWO
The Toros jumped out to a 5–0 lead in the top of the second inning. Bella Bordine singled through the left side to bring up Jane Quinn, who launched her first home run of the season—and of her collegiate career—to cut the deficit to 5–2.
Cal State Dominguez Hills kept the momentum going in the top of the third, plating three runs on two hits to extend the lead to 8–2.
Regis responded in the fifth as Enyssa Dominguez led off with a single and later came around to score on an RBI by Jessica Isbell, trimming the deficit to 8–4. However, the Rangers were unable to capitalize on the momentum and ultimately fell to the Toros, 8–4.
Quinn recorded one run, one hit 2 RBIs, and one home run.
Sophia Garcia recorded the loss for the Rangers (0-1).
Isbell, Bordine, and Kiauna Smith each recorded two hits.
