DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's basketball team concluded their 2025-26 season on Saturday afternoon, losing a close game to Metropolitan State University of Denver, 89-94, on Senior Day. The Rangers end the season 2-24 (1-19 RMAC), while the Roadrunners close at 10-18 (8-12 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Roadrunners would score the first six points of the game before Gunner Walters assisted Luke Soden for a three and Dylan Forbord for a layup. Matt Yost then hit a triple, and blocked a shot that led to a Cooper Frith jumper. Yost then added layup, putting Regis up, 14-7. Metro got within one, but RU answered with a Soden layup, a Rifky Sedhom layup, and a Nick Marabito three. MSUD was able to take a lead at 10:16 on a layup, 25-24, and despite two Frith layups and a Yost layup, extended their lead to seven. Walters set up a Logan Flores-Peoples three to end the run, and Forbord connected on two from the line. After the Roadrunners lead reached double digits, Forbord scored in the paint, Soden and Frith hit back-to-back threes, both assisted by Yost, and Frith and Soden's free throws eventually evened the game going into halftime, 52-52.
Frith scored first coming out of the break, but MSUD still built a 12-point lead. Walters jumper and Marabito's layup began to cut into the lead. Walters hit back-to-back jumpers, then assisted Soden's layup and Marabito's three. At 8:20, Soden scored from downtown, but Metro continued to have answers, holding on to a multi-possession lead. That was until Marabito hit three from the charity stripe, Soden converted a layup, and Frith hit a triple, tying the game at 85-85. However, after RU took a lead on a Yost layup, and Forbord blocked a layup, Metro went on a late run, securing the 94-88 win.
