DENVER - Colo, The Regis University Softball team hosted No.15 Colorado Christian University for a Friday Double Header. The Rangers fell in the first 21-1 and in the second 20-3. The Rangers sit at 5-15 (4-10 RMAC) and the Cougars improve to 24-2 (14-0 RMAC).
GAME ONE
CCU came out swinging, loading the bases and launching a home run to quickly build momentum. The Cougars' hot bats helped them surge to a 15–0 lead over the Rangers in the early innings.
Olivia Wick recorded a double up the middle for Regis, but the Rangers were unable to bring her home.
In the top of the third inning, the Cougars added four more runs to extend their lead.
Kiauna Smith reached second base with a double to right-center field but was left stranded.
CCU added another run in the fourth inning. For the Rangers,
Olivia Wick drew a walk, Isabell Porter followed with a single to the right side, and
Jane Quinn delivered a single up the middle to score Wick for Regis' lone run of the game. Despite the rally, the Rangers left runners on base.
The Cougars added one more run in the fifth inning to seal the victory, defeating the Rangers 21–1.
GAME NOTES
Smith, Wick, Porter and Quinn each record a hit for RU.
Ava Edwards and
Caitlyn Potts each recorded a strikeout.
Vanessa Candito would take the loss for RU (0-5) and Felesha Lepenske from CCU would record the win (8-0).
GAME TWO
The Cougars jumped out to an early 2–0 lead to start the game.
Kiauna Smith led off with a single up the middle but was ultimately left stranded on base. In the top of the second inning, CCU extended its lead with a six-run surge, moving ahead 8–0. Quinn drew a walk in the bottom of the second but was unable to come around to score.
CCU continued its offensive momentum in the top of the third, adding five more runs. The Rangers responded with some offense of their own.
Eleanor Sikora was hit by a pitch, and
Jessica Isbell followed with a double to right field that brought Sikora home. Wick then tripled to the right side, scoring Isbell, and Quinn added an RBI single to drive in Wick, cutting the deficit to 13–3.
However, CCU answered with another big inning, plating five runs in the top of the fourth. The Cougars added one more run in the final inning to cap their scoring. Wick recorded a single through the left side late in the game but was unable to reach home. The Rangers ultimately fell to CCU by a final score of 20–3.
GAME NOTES
Wick recorded two hits for RU with one RBI.
Smith and Isbell each added a hit for Regis.
Quinn would go add one hit and one RBI with one plate appearance.
For Regis
Hallie Crappell would take the loss (0-4) and Lisa Liddell for CCU would take the win (8-2).
