Late Rallies Power Cougars Past Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team concluded their series with #15 Colorado Christian University on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader, losing 4-13, and 4-14. The Rangers drop to 5-17 (4-12 RMAC) on the year, while the Cougars improve to 26-2 (16-0 RMAC).

GAME ONE

CCU opened the game with a first-pitch home run, but Olivia Wick matched the tone with a lead-off homer in the bottom of the first. The Cougars added a lead-off triple to start the second, and scored on an RBI grounder and a sacrifice fly. Colorado Christian scored on an RBI single in the third, then followed that with a pair of unearned runs. Angelina Romero-Barros and Wick both produced hits in the bottom of the third, but could not reach home.

In the fourth inning, Bella Bordine singled, and a pinch-running Micha Pittman scored on a triple by Kristin Ingram. Jessica Isbell brought her home with a sac fly, bringing the score to 6-3. Romero-Barros recorded a single, while Natasha Ellison was walked, but both were stranded on base. A pair of home runs from the Cougars scored three more runs in the sixth inning, and seven hits in the seventh brought the score to 13-3. Romero-Barros and Jane Quinn both singled in the bottom of the final frame, followed by a Kiauna Smith double that batted in a run, but the comeback try ended there, 13-4.

Three singles by Ingram, Isbell, and Wick loaded the bases for a Romero-Barros RBI walk, and Isabella Porter singled to bring in two more runs, bringing the score to 8-4.
