SPEARFISH, SD – The Regis University Softball team suffered a pair of setbacks at the hands of Black Hills State University on Sunday afternoon, 1-3 and 3-7. The Rangers fall to 6-20 (5-15 RMAC), while the Yellow Jackets improve to 16-15 (13-7 RMAC).
GAME ONE
The Yellow Jackets took the first lead of the game, scoring off of one hit and one error in the bottom of the first. The Rangers quickly answered in the second inning, as Isabella Porter reached on an error, and came home on a second misplay. The Yellow Jackets recorded two hits, but left the inning scoreless. Despite a Jane Quinn double, Regis and Black Hills would go scoreless until a pair of hits would give the Yellow Jackets a two-run lead at the bottom of the fourth.
The score would remain 3-1 the rest of the game, as the Rangers would record a hit in the sixth inning from Hailey Haas, but would leave the runner on base. Regis would go 0-3 to finish the seventh inning, finishing the game there.
GAME NOTES
· Quinn, Haas, and Ingram recorded the Rangers' hits
· Porter and Angelina Romero-Barros both stole bases
· Vanessa Candito (L, 0-6) struck out four batters in 5.1 innings of work
· Kaitlyn Geschwill (W, 8-5) struck out four in the complete game win
GAME TWO
Black Hills jumped out to an early lead in the second game as well, scoring two runs on three hits and a pair of RU errors in the bottom of the first. Following a quick second and third inning, Kiauna Smith singled in the top of the fourth, but BHSU extended their lead in the bottom of the frame, on an RBI double and RBI grounder.
Bella Bordine singled to lead off the fifth, and her pinch-runner, Adisyn Rademacher, made it to second but was left there. A two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth extended the lead, and a solo shot in the sixth brought the score to 7-0. Bordine singled again in the seventh, and Olivia Darby's single brought her to third. Eleanor Sikora was walked, loading the bases for Natasha Ellison, who batted in two runs with her single. Smith batted in Sikora with a single to short, but he rally bud fell short there, 3-7.
GAME NOTES
· Smith went 2-3 with an RBI, and Bordine added two more hits
· Ellison batted in two runs
· Carli Maley was 3-3 with three RBIs for the Yellow Jackets
· Eliza Legge (L, 2-5) and Hallie Crappell both posited a strikeout
· Sophia Honse (W, 4-1) earned the complete game win
