DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team dropped two home RMAC games to Colorado State University-Pueblo on Monday afternoon, 0-5 and 2-11. Monday afternoon, the Rangers fall to 5-13 (4-8 RMAC), while the Thunderwolves improve to 13-9 (9-3 RMAC).
GAME ONE
The Thunderwolves would waste no time, recording a single on the first pitch of the game. A hit by pitch and stolen base helped set up a pair of RBI singles for an early 2-0 lead. Olivia Wick was walked in the bottom of the frame, but left on base. Vanessa Candito struck out one in the top of second, but despite singles from Enyssa Dominguez and Kristin Ingram in the bottom, the Rangers were still left scoreless.
An RBI double in the third produced another Pueblo run, while both teams recorded a hit and left one runner on in the fourth. Candito earned another K in the top of the fifth, and a runner's interference ended the inning. CSUP extended their lead with a two-out solo shot in the sixth, while a Wick single and Isabella Porter still yielded no runs for RU. A passed ball scored an insurance run for the Thunderwolves, as Regis ended the game with an Ingram double but no runs, 5-0.
GAME NOTES
· Ingram led the Rangers with two hits,
· Three other Rangers had one hit
· Five Thunderwolves had multiple hits, led by Caitlyn Cole, going 3-4
· McKenna James (W, 6-6) picked up her second win of the weekend with six strikeouts
· Vanessa Candito (L, 0-4) struck out three in the complete game effort
GAME TWO
Pueblo would also start the second game hot, as with two outs, a wild pitch, double, and single scored three consecutive runs. Kiauna Smith was walked, and Wick stole a base in the bottom of the first, but no runs scored. CSUP went double, triple, homerun to lead off the second, going up 6-0, while Eleanor Sikora singled in the bottom, but was one of three Rangers left on base.
The Thunderwolves' bats stayed hot in the third, with another triple and an RBI single, but Regis had an answer in the bottom of the frame, with Jane Quinn leading off with a double, and brought home by Ingram's two-run homer, bringing the score to 9-2. Pueblo got those two back, however, in the fourth with a single down the left line that batted in a pair of runners.
The sixth inning started with a Pueblo double, and a score two batters later. An error by RU allowed for an unearned run to score on a double, extending the advantage to 11-2. Regis did not manage a run in the bottom, ending the game in six.
