DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team lost to Colorado School of Mines in the first game of their weekend series Friday evening, 1-6. The Rangers fall to 13-21-1 (4-12-1 RMAC), while the Orediggers improve to 13-22 (9-12 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines started the game with a lead-off single, followed by a two-run homer to take an early lead. Linus Fleek walked in the bottom of the first, and made it to third, but was left there. RU turned a double play to end the Oredigger half of the second, while Steven Kirtides recorded the Rangers' first hit. CSM left one on in the fourth as Regis got on the board behind a Fleek single, a Jack Moulin double, and an Ethan Wood RBI.
Two doubles from the Orediggers in the fifth brought in another run, but the Rangers stopped the damage there, despite Mines loading the bases. However, a George Smith walk would be the only runner for Regis in the bottom. CSM was able to extend their lead further in the sixth, scoring on an RBI double and a wild pitch.
RU had two singles in the seventh, from Nicholai Arnold and a pinch-hitting Parker Burt, but both were stranded on base. The Orediggers scored their sixth run of the game in the eighth on an RBI single, while Regis recorded three straight fly balls. In the final frame, Mines, recorded a single, and Regis was unable to mount a comeback, falling, 6-1.
