Roadrunners Complete Series Win over Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon to Metropolitan State University-Denver, 5-13 and 4-7. The Rangers fall to 12-26 (11-21 RMAC), while the Roadrunners improve to 28-14 (21-11 RMAC).

GAME ONE

Jane Quinn earned a base on balls in the top of the first, advanced on Isabella Porter's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Kristin Ingram's RBI double. Kiauna Smith added an RBI triple to add to the hot start, but MSUD answered in the bottom with an even hotter start, posting a two-run homer, RBI single, and RBI triple. Regis tied the game back up in the second, starting with a lead-off double by Zoey Langerack, who scored on Olivia Wick's sac fly, while Eleanor Sikora came home on an error. However, Metro took back a two-run lead with another two-shot homer.

Despite a Langerak single in the third, the Roadrunners extended their lead with three more runs scored on three hits and an error. The fifth frame saw another home run, scoring three more MSUD runs, and an RBI single to go up, 13-4. Porter singled in the top of the fifth and scored after two fielder's choices, but the game ended there, 5-13.

GAME NOTES

·        Porter and Langerak each had two hits and scored one run

·        Ingram went 1-2 with a run and RBI

·        Victoria Pearson went 4-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs for Metro

·        Hallie Crappell (L, 0-7) recorded the loss. Natalie Romero (W, 12-7) picked up the win

GAME TWO

The series finale started with a Quinn double, but two Rangers were left on base. The Roadrunners scored in the bottom of the opening inning on an RBI grounder. Langerak posted a double in the second inning, but was thrown out on Angelina Romero-Barros' fielder's choice. She advanced on an error, and scored on an RBI bunt by Wick, evening the score at 1-1.

Smith gave Regis the advantage in the third, launching a solo homerun over left center, and the defense put away three straight. The fourth inning saw a single for each team, Natasha Ellison representing RU, while the fifth saw a Quinn single and Smith RBI single. However, with two outs, Metro recorded four straight hits, and an error later in the inning extended that to 5-3.

The Roadrunner lead ballooned to 7-3 in the sixth off four more hits. Kristin Ingram attempted to start a comeback in the seventh, posting a double, and her pinch runner Micha Pittman scored, but the rally ended there, 4-7.

GAME NOTES

·        Smith led the Ranger offense with three hits and two runs batted in

·        Quinn and Ellison both had two hits

·        Neila Fee led Metro with three hits and two RBI

·        Eliza Legge (L, 3-7) recorded the loss with two K's. Kianna Butler (W, 8-3) picked up the win in 2.1 IP

The Rangers travel south next weekend for a series at New Mexico Highlands University, April 18-19.
