Rangers End Weekend with Win

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Regis University Softball team split a doubleheader with New Mexico Highlands University on Sunday afternoon, losing 5-9 before rebounding with a 9-7 win. The Rangers move to 13-29 (12-24 RMAC), while the Cowgirls now sit at 16-32 (14-22 RMAC).

GAME ONE

Jane Quinn opened the game with a single for the Rangers, and made it to third, but did not score, while NMHU took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on two hits. After a scoreless second, Regis put together a big third inning as, with two outs, Olivia Wick singled up the middle, Qunn singled to left, and Isabella Porter singled to the shortstop. Bella Bordine's single batted in Wick, Porter and Quinn scored on an error, and Kristin Ingram's single brought home Bordine and Kiauna Smith, putting RU up, 5-2.

The Cowgirls got one run back in the bottom, posting three hits, and took the lead back in the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits, including a three RBI triple. Highlands added a final run in the fifth, going up, 9-5. Ingram singled in the sixth, while Zoey Langerak was hit by a pitch, but both were stranded on base. In the final frame, Regis loaded the bases on a Bordine single and two walks, but were again held off home.

GAME NOTES

·        Wick, Quinn, Bordine, and Ingram all had two hits

·        Ingram batted in tow runs

·        Adisyn Rademacher stole one base

·        Vanessa Candito (L, 3-7) recorded the loss with five strikeouts. Kennedy Williams (W, 2-0) picked up the win

GAME TWO

In the series finale, Wick led off the game with a single, then stole second. Porter would do the same, as Smith and Ingram both recorded RBI singles to give RU an early 2-0 lead. The Rangers kept the momentum into the second, as Langerak singled, Quinn batted in a run with a single, Porter doubled to score Quinn, and she came home on a passed ball, extending the lead to 5-0.

The third inning saw an Angelina Romero-Barros walk, followed by a sac bunt from Natasha Ellison, and a Langerak single. Romero-Barros scored on a wild pitch, followed by an RBI double for Wick. Porter put RU ahead by eight in the fourth, leading off the inning with a homer, but the Cowgirls got on the board in the fourth, recording five hits and using two Regis miscues to score five unearned runs.

The Rangers scored for the fifth straight inning as Wick singled, advanced on Quinn's sac bunt, and scored on Porter's single. In the final inning, Highlands attempted a comeback, earning two runs on five hits, but the game ended with two runners on, 9-7.

GAME NOTES

·        Porter was a perfect 3-3 at the plate, scoring three times and batting in three runs

·        Wick had three hits and scored twice

·        Smith and Langerak both added two hits

·        Regis posted five stolen bases, including tow from Smith

·        Sophia Garcia (W, 3-4) earned the win. Liliana Vigil German (L, 2-4) posted the loss

The Rangers return home for their final home series of 2026, hosting UCCS April 25-26.
