Mountain Lions Rally Late to Take Doubleheader

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team hosted the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday afternoon, opening their final home series of 2026. UCCS won both games 11-1, and 7-4. The Rangers fall to 13-31 (12-26 RMAC), while the Mountain Lions climb to 28-19 (22-16 RMAC).

GAME ONE

The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead quickly, recording three hits in the top of the first. Regis responded with a Jane Quinn single, while Bella Bordine was hit by a pitch, and Kiauna Smith was walked. However, the three Rangers would be stranded on base. An RBI double in the second brought in another UCCS run, while the Rangers loaded the bases again, off singles from Natasha Ellison and Olivia Wick, but again did not reach home.

UCCS carried the momentum into the third, scoring five hits on four runs, including a triple and homerun, and extending the lead to 7-0. The Mountain Lions scored their eighth run in the fourth frame. Regis got on the board in the fifth, as Wick led off with a single, and was batted in on Quinn's double. Two more hits allowed three more UCCS runs in the sixth, and while Kristin Ingram doubled to left center in the bottom of the frame, the game ended there, 11-1.

GAME NOTES

·         Quinn led the offense, going 2-2 with an RBI

·         Wick added two hits as well

·         Tayler McCombs hit 2-3 with three RBI for Springs

·         Eliza Legge (L, 3-9) and Vanessa Candito both had one strikeout

GAME TWO

UCCS started the second game with another early lead, scoring an unearned run in the top of the first. Wick singled in the bottom, and advanced on Quinn's sacrifice bunt, but was left on base again. Ingram ingled in the second, but it would not be until the third that the Rangers would score. Adisyn Rademacher led off with a single, and found home on Wick's triple. Isabella Porter sacrificed to score her, giving Regis their first lead of the game. Two hit by pitches and a Smith single loaded the bases again, and Angelina Romero-Barros batted in Emily Darby for the 3-1 lead.

The Mountain Lions got one run back in the fourth, scoring on an RBI double, and tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth. Regis took back the advantage in the fifth, as Smith turned a double play from center field to home, then posted a two-out double. She scored on Ingram's RBI single, putting RU up, 4-3. Regis left two runners on in the sixth, while UCCS put together a huge seventh. Three hits, a walk and a HBP brought around four runs, while just one Ranger earned a base in the bottom, ending the game, 7-4.
