Rangers Open Crucial Series with Comeback Win

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Regis University Baseball team opened their final road series of the season at New Mexico Highlands University on Friday afternoon, rallying to win, 10-9. The Rangers improve to 15-27-1(6-18-1 RMAC), while the Cowboys drop to 10-33 (5-20 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rangers started the game with a lead-off double from Linus Fleek, but Highlands would be the first to score, with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the first. Nicholai Arnold was walked in the second, while no Cowboy earned a base. Following a scoreless third, Regis loaded the bases with a walk, hit by pitch, and Ayden Harrison single, were kept off home.

In the fifth frame, three straight singles from Fleek, Ethan Wood, and Jack Moulin scored the Rangers' first run, while Bobo Iandoli's sacrifice fly batted in Wood to tie the game. However, NMHU responded with a sac RBI of their own to take back the advantage. Ru battled back in the sixth with a Harrison lead-off single, followed by Mason Grube wearing a pitch, and George Smith laying down a sac bunt. Fleek's single scored two, and Wood's double brought in another. But the lead would flip again in the bottom after Highlands scored four runs on five hits.

The Cowboys added two more in the seventh, but RU cut into the lead in the eighth, as Fleek batted in Ethan Ralph, and Moulin doubled to bring home Fleek and Smith. Regis carried that momentum into the final inning, starting with another Harrison hit, followed by one from Dylan Hearn. Harrison tied the game, scoring on a wild pitch, and Perry took advantage of an error to give Regis the 10-9 lead. Sam Fisher then ended the game with a strikeout.
