GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team was eliminated from the RMAC Championship Tournament on Thursday afternoon, falling to No. 5 Colorado School of Mines, 17-19. The Rangers fall to 19-32-1, while the Orediggers improve to 19-32 ad advance in the tourney.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers came out strong, starting with a Jack Moulin single, followed by an Ethan Wood walk, and a Bobo Iandoli RBI single. A pair of Oredigger errors allowed Regis to score two more runs in the opening frame. Mines used three hits and an RU misplay to get two of those runs back in the bottom. The Rangers added another run in the second, as Dylan Hearn singled, and scored on Moulin's single to left. However, Colorado School of Mines would take their first lead in the bottom, posting five hits and scoring four times. Despite a Park Romney single, neither team scored in the third.
The Rangers took back the advantage in the fourth, loading the bases with three straight walks, and Moulin brining home Dylan Hearn. Wood sacrificed to score Dylan Perry, and Iandoli singled to bring around Linus Fleek, but a CSM RBI grounder evened the score back at 7-7. Regis had an explosive fifth inning, with five hits brining in six runs, including Ayden Harrison scoring on a wild pitch, Perry singling to score Hearn, Moulin singling to score Perry, and Wood homering to score Moulin and Fleek for the 13-7 lead.
A single and a walk set up Mines for a three-run homer over right field, bringing the score to 13-10. Arnold singled through the left side to lead off the sixth, and came in on a Fleek double. Mines did not score in the sixth, but in the seventh, six hits led to seven runs and a 17-14 lead. They added two insurance runs in the eighth, which would prove critical, as in the ninth, Wood, Iandoli, and Romney all singled to load the bases. Harrison hit a sac fly to score Wood, while Hearn and Perry both took RBI hit by pitches, but the game ended there, 17-19.
