DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team, who was receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, welcomed their season home opener in an emphatic way with a 3-1 win over #2 Seattle Pacific University (Wash.) on Thursday afternoon. The Rangers improve to 2-1-1, while the Falcons fall to 4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match would start with a flurry of action, as Liam Corr found Michael Ajabe for his first goal as a Ranger in the 8th minute. Just over a minute later, Blaise Richard assisted Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar to go up 2-0 early. However, the Falcons had an answer, getting on the board with the third goal of the match in under three minutes of game time. The keepers would trade saves as the defenses settled in, with only four more total shots between the squads the rest of the half.
Another Ranger would notch his first score in the Navy in Gold, as Joakim Gunnar converted on a pair of beautiful passes by Tom Devonport and Jan Grillitsch, to go up 3-1. The Rangers took over from there, taking the next three shots with two on target. Zach Jennings saved the final two shots on goal by the Falcons to help secure the 3-1 win.
