Rangers Fall to Thunderwolves in RMAC Opener

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Volleyball team opened RMAC play on Friday night, hosting Colorado State University Pueblo, but falling to CSUP, 0-3 (17-25, 16-25, 27-29). The Rangers fall to 1-9 (0-1 RMAC),  while the Thunderwolves improve to 4-6 (1-0 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Regis took an early lead, getting kills from three different players and aces from Nicole Shaver and Cady Knight. However, Pueblo took over from there, scoring the next 11 points. Alayna Pruitt ended the run with a kill, but CSUP still found themselves up, 20-8. Three straight kills from Jacie Kaniho gave the Rangers life, and Maddie Lynett aced a serve, but it came too late as the Thunderwolves won, 25-17.

CSUP used another huge run to take a strong lead in the second, ended by Morgan Munro so bring the score to 12-5. Kailyn Polzin put down a kill that started a Ranger run, including aces by Knight and Lynett, to close the gap to 16-20. But from there, Pueblo scored five straight for the set win.

Regis would build the big early lead in the third set, behind a Lauryn Uyemura ace and a pair of kills from Polzin and Callie Parker. Knight added another ace, Lynett recorded a kill, and Kaniho made it a 14-7 game. However, CSUP battled back to tie the match at 17-17. Kaniho took over the Ranger's offense, scoring their next four points, and Munro gave RU the first set points opportunity. But CSUP would take the third with a block, 29-27.
