DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Volleyball team finished their RMAC opening weekend hosting Colorado Christian University on Saturday evening, but lost to the Cougars, 1-3 (28-26, 18-25, 16-25, 17-25). The Rangers fall to 1-10 (0-2 RMAC), while CCU improves to 5-3 (2-0 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kailyn Polzin paced the Regis attack early, followed by a trio of kills from Jacie Kaniho to bring to the score to 10-7. CCU went on a run to take a 13-10 lead, before Polzin ended the streak. Kendal Allaire started a run that would put Regis back in control, including kills from Alayna Pruitt, and a Maddie Lynett-Morgan Munro block. A Lynett ace gave them the first shot at set point, but the teams would find themselves tied at 26-26. Lynett assisted Pruitt and Kaniho to secure the set win, 28-26.
The second set started with a Polzin-Munro block, while Pruitt's kill gave Regis the 7-6 early advantage. CCU used another big run to go up 22-10, finally ended by a Polzin-Allaire block. Allaire then assisted a Pruitt block, and Cady Knight aced a serve, but the run came too late, with Colorado Christian winning, 25-18.
Polzin posted another early block in the third as the teams traded points. Sabrina Landman put down a kill, while Aaliyah Rodrakkwan aced a serve, but the Rangers still trailed. A spread out offensive effort saw kills from Polzin, Pruitt, and Landman, and a late ace by Landman, but the Cougars stayed in control, winning, 25-16.
RU jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth behind kills from Munro and Polzin, but CCU battled back to tie the set at 9-9. A big run interrupted by an Allaire kill put the Cougars up, 21-12. Landman had back-to-back kills late in the set, but could not mount the comeback, falling 25-17.
GAME NOTES
· Polzin led the Rangers with 14 kills, and Pruitt added 10
· Lynett had 19 assists, with Nicole Shaver adding 16 more
· Three Rangers reached double-digit digs, led by Knight with 25
· Connelly Kilgore led all players with 15 kills
· CCU totaled nine blocks to five by Regis
