GUNNISON, Colo. – The Regis University Volleyball fell in straight sets at Western Colorado University on Friday night, 22-25, 21-25, 19-25. The Rangers fall to 1-11 (0-3 RMAC), while the Mountaineers improve to 6-5 (2-1 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set started with a variety of WCU errors, followed by kills from Jacie Kaniho and Morgan Munro. Kailyn Polzin added to the attack, while Maddie Lynett and Kendal Alliaire assisted a block to bring the set to 10-11. Kaniho recorded back-to-back kills, pacing the Ranger's offense, and getting assists from both Lynett and Nicole Shaver. However, a late run secured the 25-22 win for Western.
The second set would start similarly, with Kaniho leading the offense, and Western helping with errors on their attack. Kendal Allaire sparked a Ranger run that included an Allaire-Kaniho block and Alayna Pruitt kill, putting the Rangers up, 15-11. But the Mountaineers would have an answer, taking a 22-17 advantage. Polzin tried to steady RU late, but WCU took the second, 25-21.
Western jumped out to the first lead in the third, but Pruitt's kills and Cady Knight's ace closed the gap to one. However, WCU took control from there, with a big run, interrupted a few times by Kaniho and Polzin. Pruitt started another streak for the Rangers, which included three straight kills from Sabrina Landman and a Landman-Munro block. But the rally came too late, with Western holding on for the 25-19 win.
