PUEBLO, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team used a three-goal first half to propel themselves to victory this evening as they defeated Colorado State University Pueblo 3-0 on the road at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
The win was the Rangers' sixth in a row with it also being their fourth shutout in the last five games. Regis is now 7-2 overall while being a perfect 3-0 in RMAC play. They currently sit in a tie for first place of the early season standings with Colorado Mesa.
CSU Pueblo dropped to 2-4-2 with the loss while still searching for their first win in conference play as they are now 0-1-1.
The Rangers' three goals in the win came from three different players with the group of Andie Rylance, Brooke Castillo and Paula Igual all finding the back of the net.
Rylance's and Castillo's were their first of the season while Igual's was her fourth and second game in a row to score as well.
Elsa Nolen would also record an assist in the game on Rylance's game winning goal in the 9th minute of play.
On that goal, Nolen crossed a corner kick into the middle of the penalty area where she found Rylance who headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
Less than just two minutes later in the 11th minute Castillo scored next with her navigating through a pile of ThunderWolves before hammering a low bullet past a diving goalkeeper.
The game's third goal then came in the 23rd minute as Igual did practically the same as Castillo with her working through a pair of ThunderWolf defenders and knocking a ball past a diving goalkeeper as well.
The Rangers took just 13 shots in the game but were able to have five on goal, including the three that scored. CSUP struggled oppositely as they only managed three shots total with both on goal being saved. They were held shotless in the second half thanks to a staunch Ranger defense too.
In addition, Regis owned the corner kick advantage at 7-2.
The pair of captain goalkeepers, Maggie Payne and Helen Stegner both split time in the net for the Rangers once again with Payne recording two saves and earning the decision.
Stegner didn't face a shot while playing the final 27-plus minutes.
