DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team opened RMAC play on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over South Dakota Mines. The Rangers, ranked #20 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, climb to 4-2-2 (1-0-0 RMAC), while the Hardrockers drop to 5-5-2 (1-1-0 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Liam Corr took the first shot of the match, firing an attempt high, and Michael Ajagbe added another in the 11th minute. The defenses controlled the game until the 25:32 mark, when Corr put a pass ahead to Francisco Ruiz, who centered it to Ajagbe, who found the net to break the stalemate. Ajagbe narrowly missed a second shot, hitting the right post, as the game went into the break, 1-0.
Out of the half, Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar had a pair of shots saved, and sent another high and left. In the 65th minute, Corr assisted his second goal of the game, perfectly setting up Adam Thresher for his first career score. SDM took their first shot of the contest in the 72nd minute, and at 79:19, countered a Ranger corner kick and scored to bring the score to 2-1. Two late saves helped the Rangers secure the win.
