Ranked Golden Eagles Outlast Rangers

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team, ranked #20 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, fell on the road to #25 California State University, Los Angeles, 1-0 on Thursday evening. The Rangers fall to 1-1, while the Golden Eagles improve to 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rangers took the first shot of the game, with Sahar Golov landing his attempt on target. However, the Golden Eagles connected on their second shot of the match, a low left goal in the 16th minute. Zach Jennings saved the next CSLA shot, and with less than seven minutes left in the half, Blaise Richard had a shot blocked, and Golov had another shot saved.

The Los Angeles keeper made two saves early in the second, including a low right shot by Valdet Dalipi, and a penalty shot by Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar. Francisco Ruiz took two quick shots in the 54th minute, both saved by the Golden Eagles. Two more Ranger shots were blocked before the next CSLA shot, which was saved by Jennings. There were 10 minutes between RU shots, followed by four attempts in quick succession, including a SOG by Johan Murillo. Ben Christian Wittenbernds took three late shots, while the final attempt from Regis came from Jan Grillitsch in the 88th, but that too was saved as Los Angeles held on for the 1-0 win.

GAME NOTES

·        Golov totaled four shots with two on goal, and Ruiz added two SOG

·        Regis totaled 10 SOG from eight different players

·        RU outshot the Golden Eagles, 21-5

·        Regis took seven more corners, 8-1

·        Jennings had three saves in the complete game loss, while Abraham Ramirez saved 10 shots
