Tigers Spoil Rangers Home Opener

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Volleyball team played their home opener on Wednesday evening, hosting Fort Hays State (Kan.), but fell to the Tigers, 0-3 (18-25, 15-25, 13-25). The Rangers fall to 1-4, while FHSU improves to 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

A big early run by Fort Hays negated an Alayna Pruitt kill and Morgan Munro block, putting the Tigers up 9-3. Kailyn Polzin ended the run, and Maddie Lynett followed the kill with a service ace. Sabrina Landman and Kendal Allaire paced the offense, but FHSU continued to grow their lead. Late in the set, Cady Knight aced a serve as part of a 5-0 run, but it came too late as the Rangers lost, 18-25.

After the teams traded early runs, with the Rangers led by Pruitt and another Lynett ace, the squads were tied, 8-8. Callie Parker put down a kill, but another big run for the Tigers gave them the 21-12 advantage. A pair of Fort Hays errors ended the run, and Polzin added a late kill, but the Tigers took the second, 25-15.

The Rangers got spread out offensive contributions in the third, with Parker recording two kills, and Jacie Kaniho and Landman adding more, but Fort Hays jumped out to a 15-5 lead. Munro assisted a Pruitt block and assisted a Kaniho kill, while Krisy Brei aced a serve. However, FHSU still cruised to the 25-13 win.
