Women's Basketball Fends off Griffons 55-51

ST. JOSEPH, MO – The Regis University women's basketball team came out the victor this afternoon in a back-and-forth battle with Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

How it Happened: After one period of action, it was clear that neither team was going to go down without a fight. Regis trailed 10-9 going into the second quarter, but a pair of buckets from Morgan Ducklow and Alex Nelson helped cement the Rangers' presence on the court.

RU gained more control in the second period, going up 18-12 following a Nelson 3-pointer and Jaz'Myne Snipes layup. Missouri Western managed to crawl within two with just under five minutes remaining but the Rangers maintained their lead, heading into the locker-room up 25-18.

On her way to a team-high 12 points, Whitney Jacob opened up the third quarter for Regis with a jumper that extended the lead to 27-20. Relentless to give up, however, the Griffons went on 10-0 run to shift the advantage in their favor. Back-to-back layups from Shelby Espinosa and Snipes reinstated the Rangers' lead before Elly Walters dropped a three in the final 30 seconds to cap the quarter 40-34.

RU stayed in command throughout the final ten minutes, finishing the contest without relinquishing their lead again. Majestie Robinson and Jacob combined for nine points to keep Missouri Western at bay and seal the win 55-51.
