DENVER - The No. 15 Regis University men's basketball team (13-1,8-0 RMAC) bested the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers (6-9,4-5 RMAC) Friday night on the road and improved their win streak to 13-straight as they lead the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
How it Happened: The Rangers led 30-24 just before the first frame came to a close as graduate student guard
Brian Dawson nailed a jumper in the paint just before the buzzer sounded. SDM got off to a nice start in the second half and regained the lead at the 18 minute mark. However, Regis thundered back on a 16-9 run through the midway point of the second half to swing momentum back in their favor.
Regis closed the game by shooting 47 percent from the field and even went on a 20-13 run to close the half. The team led by seven points before the final buzzer sounded, sealing the 66-59 road wim.
Game Notes: RU was 44% (22-50) from the field and 25.9% (7-27) from behind the arc.
Regis outrebounded the Hardrockers by a margin of 30-27.
Junior guard
Will Cranston-Lown (6-13 FG, 3-9 3-PT) led the way with a team-high 20 points.
Dawson (6-12 FG, 1-6 3-PT) added 16 points while graduate student guard
Troy Brady (4-8 FG, 2-6 3-PT) contributed 10 points.
Junior forward
Alex Cartwright (2-3 FG, 1-2 3-PT) scored seven points while freshman forward
Brayden Carter (2-4 FG) led the team in rebounding with eight boards.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis will return home Friday, Jan. 21 when they host the Westminster Griffins (7-8,5-4 RMAC) at 7 p.m.
