DENVER - The No. 12 Regis University men's basketball team (14-1,9-0 RMAC) tied their longest win streak (14 games) since the 1996 season under then Head Coach
Lonnie Porter. The squad got it done behind the likes of redshirt junior forward
Kevin Ebiriekwe (17 points) and graduate student guard
Brian Dawson (16) as the team dispatched the Westminster College Griffins (8-9,6-5 RMAC), 68-60 at home.
How it Happened: The Rangers led by as much as nine points in the first frame after freshman forward
Brayden Carter nailed a jumper in the paint with 12 minutes to play in the half. Westminster however would pull back and even tie the game after a dunk from Taylor Miller. But that sparked a 10-2 Ranger run to close the half as Regis led it 33-25 as the teams went into the locker room.
Dawson opened the final frame by drilling a tre from deep and inspired an impressive second half offensive performance from Regis. RU lit it up from behind the arc and cashed in three more triples, stifling the Griffin defense. Despite Westminster improving their field goal percentage by 11 percent from the first half, Regis' offense kept them comfortably in the lead for the remainder of the game. The squad took the RMAC win by a margin of 68-60.
Game Notes: Regis shot 48 percent (23-48) from the field and 43 percent (10-23) from behind the arc. The team got 12 points at the line as they were 66 percent (12-18).
Ebiriekwe (6-7 FG, 2-2 3-PT) led all scorers with 17 points. He also grabbed five boards.
