DENVER - The Regis University baseball team (2-5-1, 0-0 RMAC) faced Minot State (4-2) in game two of their four-game series with the Beavers. On the cold, blustery day, the Rangers weren't quite as hot in the box as they were yesterday when they won by a margin of 18-17. Today, a late ninth inning push wasn't enough to erase their seven-run deficit as they dropped game two, 9-4.
How it Happened: Freshman
Zach Daudet gave RU a 1-0 lead in the first inning when he scored on a wild pitch, but that would be the last Ranger run until the eighth.
Freshman pitcher
Blake Shepardson (0-1) started on the mound for the Rangers until he was retired in the top of the sixth by junior
Zach Harstad.
In the eighth, after the eight runs were scored by the Beavers, Regis finally put another run on the board when sophomore
Braxton Boyle drilled a double to left, scoring sophomore
Levi Padilla.
Since Minot State added a run in the bottom of the ninth, the Rangers needed seven runs in their final at-bat to tie the game up. They got two when graduate student
McKay Banks and junior
Matt Marlow scored off redshirt sophomore
Brooks Browning's single, but that was all they could get before the side was retired, ending the game at 9-4.
Game Notes: Regis scored four runs off five hits and had a trip of errors.
Boyle led RU by going 2-4 at the plate.
Marlow and Browning were 1-4. Marlow led Regis with nine putouts while Browning had two RBI.
Boyle and Daudet had had a career-high four assists in the game.
Up Next for the Rangers: The two teams will meet for a third time tomorrow at 2 p.m.
