LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has determined that graduate student UTL
Allisha Martinez has earned this week's Louisville Slugger/NFCA DII Player of the Week award, the association announced Tuesday.
Martinez (Buena Park, Calif.), who is also this week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Player of the Week, is the first Ranger since 2018 to win the weekly NFCA award. Martinez led the Rangers in their four-game series sweep over New Mexico Highlands this past weekend as the team improved to 8-0 in conference play. Martinez paced RU with an astounding .750 BA in eight plate appearances. The UTL accumulated 11 RBI, the most of any player in the series and posted six hits. Martinez homered in all but one contest and scored six runs for Regis. Her on-base percentage of .615 and slugging percentage of 2.125 were just what Regis needed to power past the Cowgirls. In the field, the 2b/OF did her job with three putouts and four assists.
The Division II Player & Pitcher of Week awards are voted on by the NFCA's Division II Top 25 Committee, which consists of two head coaches representing each of the eight NCAA DII Regions.
RU will travel to UCCS this weekend as their RMAC run continues. First pitch will be tossed at noon on Saturday.
