GOLDEN, Colo. - The Regis University softball team (26-19, 20-10 RMAC) nabbed their 20th Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) win of the season Friday afternoon versus the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (14-24, 14-14 RMAC). Regis split Saturday's bill after winning the opener behind freshman RHP
Kylie Harpman's arm, but Mines' bats proved to be too much for the Rangers in the closer.
Game One | How it Happened: Harpman (W, 15-7) started in the circle in game one for the Rangers.
Scoreless through three, the first runs of the day were scored by RU in the fourth inning. Senior Carly Gray recorded a fielder's choice RBI plus freshman Rachel Williams and junior Shayelyn Allen both raced home after a CSM error.
Still in the fourth, senior Madison Flores helped Regis take a commanding 4-0 lead after her sac fly. However, the Orediggers didn't go away quietly. The home team put up a trio of runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but Harpman put the comeback to rest in the seventh after retiring the side, sealing the 4-3 triumph.
Game Notes: Regis scored four runs off five hits and had one error.
Harpman struck out eight batters through the 32 batters she faced.
Gray, Beard and Flores all recorded an RBI in the game.
Freshman Miia Campos and graduate student Allisha Martinez led at the plate, they were each one-for-four.
Sophomore Katherine Raper, Allen and Williams were the other Rangers to record a hit.
Game Two | How it Happened: The series DH saw junior RHP
Abby Covington start on the mound for RU, but two other Ranger pitchers would see action in the game.
Williams got things going in the first with a RBI single down the right field line, but Mines took a 3-1 lead over Regis after scoring runs in the first and fourth.
But RU thundered back in the fifth after an impressive four-run showing. Campos logged a RBI single, Williams drew a bases-loaded walk, Beard had a sac fly and senior Shelby Shepherd had a two RBI double to right to take a 6-3 lead.
Mines had other plans though, five runs in the sixth put them in front. In the end, Regis fell 8-11
Game Notes: Regis scored eight runs off 10 hits and had two errors.
Raper (2-1) was credited with the loss.
Campos led in the box, she was 3-5 and had a RBI.
Raper was close behind, she was 2-3 plus a RBI.
