No. 4 Rangers celebrate Senior Night with a 16-2 victory over Fort Lewis

DENVER, Colo. — Horrid windy conditions did little to slow down the No. 4 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team as they braved the braved the elements to celebrate Senior Night in style, rolling to a 16-2 victory against Fort Lewis College.

Regis (15-0 overall, 10-0 RMAC) honored nine seniors and graduate students prior to first draw on Friday in graduate students Hannah Krats, Kyleigh Peoples and Sarah Kate Dhom, and seniors Alexis Parker, Maddie Northcut, Camille Watling, Maya Quigley, Lucy Johnson and Sydney Landdeck.

While the Rangers are in prime position to host the RMAC Tournament in two weeks, leading the RMAC standings over Colorado Mesa with two regular season games remaining, Friday's win was a celebration for the group in their final home regular season game in blue and gold.

"We have a great group of seniors who have been leading us all year long. I was very happy we got to honor and celebrate them," said Regis head women's lacrosse coach, Sarah Kellner. "I thought they all played very well and together, as a unit, I thought we played very well."

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Rangers dominated the opening 30 minutes of play as they scored the game's first 10 goals, owning a 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 10-0 advantage with 8:35 remaining in the second quarter following a goal by Northcut.

It was the third of a career-high four goals Northcut would score on Friday to lead all scorers; topping her previous career high of three goals, set last May 1 in a road win against UCCS.

"I thought Maddie was in great positioning all night. She saw the field really well, saw the lanes and the gaps in (FLC's) defensive end," Kellner said. "She also made some really great decisions with her shot placements."

After a FLC goal by Ellie Martinez got FLC on the board with 5:21 remaining, Regis closed the half with scores from Northcut and Peoples to take a 12-1 lead into the halftime break.

"I thought we played with a lot of confidence. It was pretty emotional in the locker room before the game for a lot of us, with it being the final regular season game at home. We had their parents send in videos, so we watched those and it got emotional. But I thought the girls did a great job of working all that out in warm ups," Kellner said. "They were ready to go at first draw like it was a regular game."

Scoring slowed down in the second half under the running clock and gusting winds, but the Rangers still managed to outscore the Skyhawks, 4-1, over the final two periods as they received goals from Peoples, sophomore Lily Ferguson, junior Bailey Truex and Parker with 1:05 remaining to put a stamp on the 16-2 final.

Peoples finished with a game-high five points, scoring three goals and adding two assists, while Krats, Truex, Ferguson and Parker each netted two goals apiece. Watling would also score her sixth goal of the season to round out the Regis scoring.

GAME NOTES: The Rangers finished the evening with a 38-7 advantage in shot attempts and 28-4 cushion in shots on goal.

Regis tied a season high with 23 forced turnovers on Friday, led by Dhom with four to go with her four ground balls, while limiting Fort Lewis to 13-for-22 on clear attempts.

Freshman goalkeeper Brigit Goetsch improved to a perfect 8-0 this spring as she played all 60 minutes and stopped two of the four shots she faced.

UP NEXT: Leading the RMAC standings by one game over Colorado Mesa with two games to play, the Rangers will look to clinch the program's fourth RMAC regular season championship next weekend when they head on the road to face Westminster College (7 p.m. Thursday) and CMU (1 p.m. Saturday).

"Our goal all season long has been to win the RMAC outright and host the conference tournament," Kellner said. "We're really looking forward to finishing the regular season out strong with our road trip next weekend."
