No. 7 Rangers have 11 different goal scorers in 17-4 rout of Westminster

DENVER, Colo. — The No. 7 Regis University women's lacrosse team closed out its six-game home stand in style Sunday, rolling to a 17-4 victory over Westminster College.

Regis (9-0 overall, 4-0 RMAC) had 11 different players score at least one goal on Sunday and finish their home stand outscoring opponents 103-39.

"Obviously, we're so lucky to have this new field and we love playing here. To undefeated here is great and we hope to keep it that way. It's been great to play in front of a lot of fans because they give us great energy," said Regis head women's lacrosse coach, Sarah Kellner. "Today was a great team win. We had a lot of different people step up, a lot of freshmen step up, and we were able to work on a bunch of different looks."

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Rangers wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard as they owned a 9-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and put together a nine-goal scoring streak between the 9:11 mark of the first to the 9:44 mark of the second.

Regis came in waves, offensively, as eight different players scored in the first half to help the Rangers build a 12-2 lead at the break.

Graduate student attacker Kyleigh Peoples led all goal scorers with three and added an assist. Fellow graduate student Hannah Krats, sophomore Lily Ferguson, senior Alexis Parker and true freshman Justine Spahr all tallied two goals apiece on Sunday, as well.

For Spahr, the two goals were her first career scored in seven games played this season.

"Justine was great in the midfield. She was aggressive on the draw and offensive end and I love watching her play lacrosse because she is just a free flow player," Kellner said. "She trusts her instincts, has great athleticism and a great lefty spin."

With a running clock in the second half, the Rangers were able to salt away the victory; not allowing more than one goal per quarter en route to the 17-4 final.

Six additional Rangers netted at least one goal in the win Sunday in junior Gabby Rothermund, freshman Tia Krats, freshman Madeline Schallmoser, senior Lucy Johnson, junior Maddie Northcut and junior Bailey Truex.

GAME NOTES: The Rangers finished with a dominating 41-11 advantage in shots, including 31-7 in shots on goal.

Regis also won the turnover battle Sunday, 23-10, while owning a sizable advantage in clear attempts. Westminster finished the afternoon 9-of-17 while the Rangers were near perfect at 14-for-15.

On the ground, Regis finished with a 30-11 lead in ground balls, paced by senior defenseman Maya Quigley with four.

Freshman goalkeeper Brigit Goetsch drew the start Sunday and earned her sixth victory of the season, making two saves in her 30 minutes of action. Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Myotte recorded one save over the final 30 minutes in the second half.

UP NEXT: The Rangers continue their first turn through the RMAC schedule next weekend when they head south to face Adams State University (3 p.m. Friday) and Fort Lewis College (1 p.m. Sunday).
