Regis Volleyball announces six signees to complete 2022 Recruiting Class

| By:
DENVER, Colo. — The Regis University volleyball program bolstered its 2022 Recruiting Class over the spring, welcoming in six new additions that will join the Rangers this upcoming fall.

Regis signed local standout, true freshman Isabella Smith (Littleton, Colo.), during the early signing period back in November, giving the Rangers a total of seven newcomers — the largest signing class during Joel List's six seasons as head coach — that will sport a Rangers' uniform in 2022.

"I'm proud of what our staff (assistants Ashley Petak and Paul Martin) was able to do this year with recruiting. This is the biggest class I've ever had here at Regis and we're excited at how this class adds so many different things to our program," List said. "This is a big class just in sheer numbers, but we will be a bigger team regarding our height, as well. This class also brings maturity with four transfers, yet the three true freshmen are young talent that will provide new depth. Whenever we've been able to have depth in the gym, we have been very successful. This group is also very strong in the classroom. They will not only add a lot to our program, but they will add to university's strong academic reputation. I'm looking forward to getting this new group acclimated to our culture."

The Rangers' six new signees include:
Kylie

Kylie Stremmel | 5'8 | Freshman | Defensive Specialist | Champlin, Minn. | Champlin Park High School

Stremmel was a prep star at Champlin Park High School in Champlin, Minnesota where she was a two-time All-Conference player in 2020 and 2021. As a senior, she racked up 228 digs (2.6 digs per set) in 2021 en route to being named Third Team All-Metro by the Minnesota Star Tribune.

As for her club career, she spent three seasons with the Minnesota Select where she helped the team to a combined 45-4 record.

List on Stremmel: Kylie is a great defender in the back row. We enjoyed her charisma and caring personality on her visit.  She will bring some depth to the defensive specialists on the team. She is already a leader in her own school through spearheading her school's Special Olympics Unified club.

Braiziah

Braiziah Dixon | 6'0 | Freshman | Middle Blocker | St. Paul, Minn. | Highland Park Senior High School

Dixon is a six-foot middle blocker out of St. Paul, Minnesota. She earned All-Conference Honorable Mention and the Wells Fargo Most Valuable Teammate award through the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL).

On the club stage, Dixon starred for the Minnesota Impact, Minnesota One and Vital Volleyball Club, where she helped the first Vital team (18-1 overall) to the club's first open bid for a USA Volleyball national appearance.

Dixon has also been active off the court as she helped co-found the Highland Park Middle School black student union and served as a racial equity leader. She plans on majoring in Peace and Justice while at Regis, while earning a minor in Spanish.

List on Dixon: We were very fortunate to be able to recruit Braiziah at such a late stage in recruiting. Many colleges were looking for quality middles in the class of 2022 and so we were happy she chose us as the next step in her volleyball career. Braiziah caught my attention with how hard she works at the net and how she was a very good teammate. Once you get to know her, she has so many amazing passions on and off the court. Braiziah's passions will be a great addition to our team.

Emma

Emma Prentice | 6'0 | Sophomore | Outside Hitter | Gretna, Neb. | Iowa Western Community College

Prentice comes to Regis as a sophomore and proven winner. Following a successful prep career at Gretna High School, where she helped the team to the 2019 Class A Nebraska State Championship game, Prentice continued her career at Iowa Western Community College as a vital piece to the Reivers' 2021 NJCAAA National Championship team.

During her one season with the Reivers, Prentice played in 26 matches and tallied 172 kills. Defensively, she added 229 digs and 29 total blocks while helping the team to a 33-4 overall record.

Prentice has also shined academically, earning Honor Roll all four years of her high school career and the Presidential Scholar award at Iowa Western. She plans to study Biology while at Regis before moving on to medical school.

List on Prentice: Emma comes from some very good programs in high school and at Iowa Western. She can play all positions in the front row, which makes her very versatile. Her experience winning a national championship at Iowa Western will also play an important role in our culture. Emma's background from Nebraska has several ties to others on our team now so she will be able to fit in very quickly.

Klaudia

Klaudia Sowizral | 6'3 | Graduate Student | Middle Blocker | St. Charles, Ill. | UConn

Sowizral brings a wealth of experience and success to the table, coming to Denver after spending four seasons in the Big East conference with the University of Connecticut. She played in 15 career matches for the Huskies, making two starts, which included four-kill performances in wins over DePaul and North Carolina State last fall.

Prior to her time at UConn, Sowizral was a tantalizing talent that dominated during her prep career at St. Charles East High School, where she was a three-time all-conference player and posted 45 blocks, 229 kills and a .341 hitting percentage as a senior.

Academically, she has been just as impressive as Sowizral was a member of the National Honors Society and a four-time Academic All-Conference selection. She plans on earning her Master's degree while at Regis in Environmental Biology.

List on Sowizral: Klaudia is another versatile player that will bring size to our front row in the middle or on the right side. She will be entering graduate school and her experience from UConn will be crucial to making our team better.  Her maturity and love for the game will be a fantastic addition to our team. We were impressed with her background and work ethic it has instilled, her and her family are ideal fits for what we look for.

Amelia

Amelia Davis | 6'5 | Sophomore | Middle Blocker | Denver, Colo. | East Carolina University

A former local prep standout at Arapahoe High School, Davis returns home to Denver after playing her freshman season at the Division I level for East Carolina University in the American Athletic Conference.

Davis started all 28 matches she played in last fall, racking up 131 kills and posting a team-best .281 hitting percentage while also leading the Pirates in solo blocks (18) and total blocks (88.0) standing at a towering 6-foot, 5-inches.

Academically, Davis earned AAC Honor Roll honors this season and plans to major in Elementary Education at Regis.

List on Davis: It's easy to say that Amelia will bring some size to our team, but I'm more excited for the intangibles she will bring. Amelia's sincere care for others is refreshing to have. Her family is close by, and they are great people and I'm sure they are as happy as we are to have her around. Our team felt a great connection with her when she was on campus and they are excited she will be part of our team. Amelia will have the ability to make opponents change their game plans and she will make our defense much more efficient.

Lexie

Alexandra "Lexie" Curtis | 6'2 | Junior | Setter | Maryville, Ill. | Hillsborough Community College

Curtis was a three-sport star in high school, excelling in volleyball, basketball and softball before starting her collegiate career at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida.
In two seasons with the Lady Hawks, Curtis played in 25 career matches and compiled 234 assists (4.33 assists per set) and 48 digs.

She plans to major in Graphic Design while at Regis to pursue a career in business or sports marketing.

List on Curtis: Lexie has a great sports background, and she is around the gym a lot. She is a multi-sport athlete and started setting very recently. As we went through the recruiting process, I could tell she has all the tools we look for in a great setter. Ashley and I are excited to develop her talents into being another great setter for our program.
