Rangers conclude weekend with road loss to Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. — The Regis University men's basketball team had its mini two-game win streak come to an end Saturday, capping a challenging home-road weekend doubleheader with a 91-74 road loss to Chadron State College inside the Chicoine Center.

With the loss, the Rangers slide to 8-10 overall and 5-7 in the RMAC, while the Eagles (11-8 overall, 8-5 RMAC) continue their three-game win streak and 2022-23 resurgence, already exceeding their 10-win total from last season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Coming off back-to-back strong, 80-point performances, the Rangers were unable to gain much traction offensively on Saturday.

Regis held an 8-7 lead early at the 14:33 mark, but was limited to 35 percent (9-for-26) shooting through the game's opening 20 minutes and were 0-for-6 from 3-point range, heading into the half trailing, 43-28.

Chadron State, which shot a sizzling 65 percent (37-for-57) from the field Saturday, would take advantage of the early cushion as it led by 12 points or more the rest of the way in the second half en route to claiming the 91-74 final.

Regis senior forward Aaron Bokol would lead all Rangers with 18 point Saturday on 6-for-10 shooting, and a spotless 6-of-6 mark at the free-throw line. He added team highs in rebounds (8) and assists (5) in his 27 minutes.

Joining Bokol in double-figures were sophomore forward Brayden Carter, who tallied 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting as well, and redshirt junior guard Eddy Egun with 10 points.

GAME NOTES:
  • Regis limited Chadron State, the top offensive rebounding team in the RMAC, to just five offensive points and eight second-chance points
  • The Eagles held a 22-10 edge in points off turnovers and were dangerous in the open floor, finishing with a 22-3 advantage in fast break points
  • Graduate student guard David Simental added eight points and a team-high three steals
  • Junior guard CJ Reed chipped in eight points, giving him 27 points off the bench for the weekend

UP NEXT: The Rangers, who have won two straight at home, return to the friendly confines of the Regis Fieldhouse next weekend for matchups against Colorado State University Pueblo (7 p.m. Friday) and New Mexico Highlands University (5 p.m. Saturday).
