Jalen Brown tallies career-high 16, but Rangers settle for 1-1 road trip after loss to No. 15 Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The Regis University men's basketball team had to settle for a split of its weekend road trip, falling by a 92-57 final out in Grand Junction against No. 15 Colorado Mesa.

Regis (5-4 overall, 2-2 RMAC), coming off a 92-83 road win 24 hours earlier against Westminster University, was unable to duplicate the same success shooting the basketball Saturday as the Mavericks (7-1 overall, 4-0 RMAC) were able to hold Regis to 27.8 percent (15-for-54) just one night after the Rangers shot a sizzling 58.5% (31-for-53) against Westminster.

"Colorado Mesa showed us what an experienced team looks like," said Regis head men's basketball coach, Brady Bergeson. "We did not have our best stuff tonight. Our young groups is learning what the road is like in the RMAC. We'll bounce back with focused preparation next week."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colorado Mesa came out of the gates swinging, jumping out to a 13-3 lead through the game's first six minutes, and leading by as many as 24 in the first half at 44-20, en route to building a 50-39 advantage at the break.

The Rangers received a career-high 16 points from freshman guard Jalen Brown, but were unable to mount a sustained a run in the second half as Colorado Mesa methodically worked its way to a 92-57 final.

Colorado Mesa's offense hummed at 56.1 percent (32-for-57) shooting for the game and were 16-for-31 (51.6%) from 3-point range.

Regis, which made a season-high 19 3-pointers in Friday's win, cooled off behind the stipe Saturday, shooting 4-for-26 (15.4%).

GAME NOTES
  • Joining Brown in double-figures for Regis on Saturday were redshirt junior guard Eddy Egun (11 points) and junior guard CJ Reed with 10 points.
  • Reed also led a with the Rangers, tied with freshman Ty Cox, with three steals.
  • In addition to his 16 points, Brown led Regis with five rebounds.
  • Colorado Mesa was able to push the pace and capitalize off turnovers on Saturday, finishing with a 30-7 advantage in fast break points.
UP NEXT
The Rangers continue their current four-game road trip to end the fall semester next weekend with trips to Chadron State College (3 p.m. Saturday) and Colorado Christian University (4 p.m. Sunday).
