Graf drives in five, Rangers take Game One from Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. — A snow flurry in Alamosa did little to slow down the Regis University baseball team as the Rangers earned an 18-14 road victory over Adams State University in a Game One that was originally scheduled for Friday, suspended in the fifth inning due to snow, and resumed on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Rangers (9-7-1 overall, 1-0 RMAC) post their third straight victory and earn their first win in RMAC play, while the loss drops Adams State to 6-13 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers cranked out 18 runs on 19 hits and dominated the middle innings, hanging four runs in the top of the fifth and top of the sixth innings to build an 11-5 lead heading into the late stages.

Adams State would threaten with eight runs in the eighth, closing within a run at 12-11, but the Rangers answered with their own six-spot in the top of the ninth to retake control of the game.

Junior designated hitter Matt Graf led all Regis players with five runs driven in, including his first home run in a Regis uniform; a three-run shot in the sixth inning.

Every Regis starter recorded at least one hit, with Graf (3-for-5) and senior outfielder Levi Padilla (3-for-4, 3 runs scored) pacing the offense.

Adams State again threatened late, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Regis senior left-hander Ethan Sloan slammed the door by getting the final two outs of the inning.

GAME NOTES
  • Regis junior outfielder Mattias Sessing finished 2-for-4 for three RBI and four runs scored.
  • The Rangers racked up five stolen bases, led by junior Tanner Rice with two stolen bases.

UP NEXT
The Rangers and Grizzlies are scheduled to play a triple-header on Sunday, with the first two games set for seven-inning contests followed by a nine-inning finale. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Alamosa.
