No. 8 Rangers open up at home with a dominant 21-7 win over Dominican

DENVER, Colo. — The No. 8 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team made its home debut on Saturday, opening the Rocky Mountain Shootout with a dominant 21-7 win over Dominican University of California.

Regis (3-0 overall) never trailed and had 10 different goal scorers in Saturday's victory over the visiting Penguins (1-2 overall), led by sophomore Maggie Schipfer with a career-high four goals and an assist.

"It was wonderful to be at home in front of our crowd and a lot of alumni. We talk a lot about sharing the ball and I thought we did an excellent job moving the ball and getting everyone involved," said Regis head coach, Sarah Kellner. "Dominican was kind of keying on some of our players, which just opened up someone else to do the job."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers dominated the Penguins early, racking up 10 of their 21 goals in the opening 15 minutes and owning a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Regis then put the game away in the second quarter, blanking Dominican, 6-0, to take a commanding 16-3 lead at the break. The Rangers scored 10 straight goals between the 1:41 mark of the first quarter and 13:50 mark of the third.

With the running clock in hand, the Rangers would cruise in the second half, outscoring the Penguins, 5-4, over the final 30 minutes to methodically earn the 21-7 victory.

GAME NOTES

Schipfer had five goals in 2023 and 10 career goals prior to Saturday's four-goal performance.
Graduate student midfielder Bailey Truex recorded her third straight hat trick to begin 2024.
Junior midfielder Becky Goetsch also added her first hat trick of the season; her first three goals of the spring.
Graduate student attacker Gabby Rothermund directed the Regis offense with two goals and a season-high five assists.
Junior midfielder Megan Bunker tallied two goals and a game-high eight draw controls, giving her over 400 draw controls in her career between her time at Seton Hill and Regis.
Rounding out the Regis goal scorers were freshman Evie Tanella (2 goals), senior midfielder Lily Ferguson (2 goals), freshman Lexie Springman (1 goal) and sophomore Noemi Ramirez (1 goal).
Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Myotte made her first start of 2024 and earned her first win, making seven saves on the 14 shots she faced.

UP NEXT
The Rangers will continue the Rocky Mountain Shootout on Wednesday when it hosts Rockhurst University. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Regis Turf Fields.

"We're familiar with Rockhurst from their time being in the RMAC and now as a regional opponent. They have a very athletic team and a deep bench, as well as a couple different defenses they can throw at teams," Kellner said. "It'll be a fun matchup for us."
